Postal operator Jersey Post has enhanced its express mail and courier offering by trialling a new priority mail collection service for local businesses.
The execution of the new timed mail service will be helped by the deployment of a dedicated Renault Twizy Cargo delivery vehicle in the center of St Helier in Jersey. The trial will run until the end of the year when its success will be reviewed.
“One of the barriers to providing a premium express and courier service is the ability to access customer premises quickly and easily in St Helier,” said Andy Jehan, director of operations at Jersey Post.
“The Twizy is so small and nimble that it can park in the smallest of spaces; this will be a huge help in reaching our customers as quickly as possible when they have time-critical items of mail. It is also electric so further enhances our existing electric fleet and meets our aim of wanting to reduce our impact on the local, and wider, environment.”
The addition of the Twizy coincides with the trial of an online dispatch tool that is currently being piloted with a range of local businesses. This tool enables clients to log on, select the appropriate service, prepare items for dispatch and then print the relevant label. The client then makes a phone call or sends an email or text message to the Jersey Post Premium Services team, and the Twizy is dispatched to collect the items in question.
Craig Seager, director at Bagot Road Garage, said, “This is a great example of a business selecting a vehicle to overcome a business challenge. The Twizy is designed to perform regular short journeys where speed is of the essence. It is truly the champion of easy parking and has an unbeatable compact size and turning circle.”
