Beumer Group, a supplier of automated solutions for the postal industry, has completed the design and integration of a new sorting system for UK Mail’s latest purpose-built hub.
Based on the LS-4000CB cross-belt sorter, the new system features the loose loading of products at a single stop, enabling the national hub to sort items ranging in size from small packets to parcels up to 1.395m (4.58ft) long and weighing up to 49kg (108 lb). This means that UK Mail can offer later cut-off times across a diverse range of parcel sizes. The system is also capable of being expanded at a later date, depending on capacity requirements.
To optimize efficiency throughout the unloading, sorting and reloading process, Beumer’s software suite provides process managers with a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) overview, which integrates the systems for both yard management and sortation.
In addition to statistical analysis, the overview integrates live monitoring of trailer movements and operational performance parameters such as the key performance indicators (KPI) for flow capacity.
