National postal operator Swiss Post has revealed that a number of changes to its post office network may affect approximately 1,200 employees by 2020.
In recent years the post has made a number of changes to its traditional post office operations in order to combat the decline in letter volumes and counter services. Since the turn of the millennia, over-the-counter turnover has decreased by 63% for letters, 42% for parcels and 37% for payment transactions.
The post will now look to increase the number of customer access points from the current 3,700 to 4,000 by 2020. This will primarily be accomplished through the post’s agency format forming branches with partners. However, depending on local requirements, these may be supplemented by home delivery services, My Post 24 terminals, business customer points, and other acceptance and collection points. Swiss Post envisages a network of 800 to 900 post offices by 2020.
A statement on the website read, “The stated goal is to continue to avoid redundancies. Swiss Post takes its social responsibility seriously and is looking for suitable solutions for the employees affected. Swiss Post will continue to actively engage in dialog with the social partners in the usual manner.”
