Ukrposhta has installed a new automated sorting system at its Kyiv-Pravyi logistics terminal that will enable it to process 18,000 parcels per hour and about 400,000 postal items per day.
The new sorting equipment for international, small and large postal items is part of a wider logistics network transformation project that will see Ukrposhta automate a further six sorting terminals in the first half of 2024 and get rid of manual sorting.
The postal operator also plans to open an innovative Kyiv-Livyi sorting terminal in the second half of the year that will house another international parcel processing center to reduce mail processing time. By moving to 100% automated processing throughout Ukraine, Ukrposhta expects its total capacity to be about 2,000,000 postal items per day.
“In 2023, the number of items sent by Ukrposhta increased by 40%. This means that customers trust the company and we, in turn, strive to be better for them. The new equipment will increase our productivity and sorting quality by eight. And the simultaneous transformation of the logistics network will ensure high-speed delivery, initially between oblast centers and large cities, and later to every town and village in Ukraine,” said Igor Smelyansky, Ukrposhta CEO.
In addition, as part of its global transformation strategy, Ukrposhta is introducing a new approach to logistics routes. The restructuring of the logistics network and optimization of delivery routes between the terminals, logistics centers and depots, without unnecessary detours and stops, will enable Ukrposhta to deliver shipments to customers in all oblast centers and large cities of Ukraine the very next day.
Ukrposhta’s next step will be to automate the sorting of letters and newspapers and medication order fulfillment. It also plans to ‘reboot’ key services and processes to digitalize services as much as possible and make them more convenient for customers.
