As part of its #PLXUkraine appeal, shipping company Pall-Ex has raised £8,600 (US$10,000) to support those in Ukraine affected by the conflict in Eastern Europe, with a range of events and challenges.
The appeal was launched earlier in 2022 to raise money for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and has been supported by members of staff at Pall-Ex’s head office in Coalville in the UK. The appeal kicked off with a football match between Pall-Ex and Fortec Distribution Network at the King Power Stadium, home of Leicester City Football Club. The event raised £3,115 (US$3,600).
There have also been individual efforts including Simaran Uppal, a human resources generalist at Pall-Ex, who raised £555 (US$650) by climbing Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales. Ashley Diamond, head of the Southwest network, raised £180 (US$210) for his participation in the Carten100 cycling challenge. Pall-Ex Group has also united with its network members to help DEC support people in need.
Logistics service Moody Logistics and Storage also took on a cycling challenge by getting the team involved to cycle a combined total of 120km over two days on an assault bike stationed in their office. This, combined with a tombola and quiz, raised £2,208 (US$2,585). The Charity Red Ball challenge at the annual Pall-Ex Group golf day added a further £1,070 (US$1,252) to the donation. Distribution service Shears Brothers Transport in Bournemouth organized and hosted a golf day and raffle, raising £1,002 (US$1,170) in the process.
Pall-Ex recently held a BBQ Extravaganza at its head office, where Kevin Buchanan, CEO of Pall-Ex Group, and other members of the senior management team took to the stocks. Employees made donations for the opportunity to throw wet sponges at their boss, raising £573 (US$671) in the process and bringing the total to £8,605.17 (US$10,000).
Buchanan commented, “As an organization, we want to support the vital work of the DEC in any way that we can, and we are delighted to see the efforts our staff and network members have made to support this worthwhile cause. Our charity football match and BBQ Extravaganza have been a great success and helped us raise a significant amount of money and have fun together in the process. Our #PLXUkraine appeal shows that if we all work together, small actions can achieve incredible results.”
