Hermes UK has announced the appointment of a new chief operating officer (COO), a move designed to support operations following a significant increase in parcel volumes due to both Covid-19 and the ongoing growth of online shopping.
According to the company, Carl Lyon will take on the role having been with the business for more than seven years in a number of senior operational positions, including most recently operations director – delivery experience.
Lyon has been a member of the Hermes UK main board for three years and is credited with successfully developing its delivery model with the introduction of new technology and the launch of SE+ – a model for Hermes’s network of self-employed couriers. According to the company he was also instrumental in the creation of Hermes’s ParcelShop and locker network. Prior to this, Lyon held roles at Christian Salvesen, TNT and PostNL.

We have responded to this growth by fast-tracking our capacity build program with a multimillion-pound investment in our infrastructure, systems and people.
“Carl’s new appointment will enable him to support this moving forward by utilizing his experience and knowledge across all of our business including our hubs and depots network. In addition, he is also leading our customer service transformation initiative.”
