Elite Consulting has designed a box suitable for moving swabs and medicine with the DJI Matrice 200 series drone.
The Italian company says the drone can carry two boxes and fly during light rain and has a range of 5km.
The box has been designed to ensure biological material cannot come into contact with the surrounding environment in the event of an accident.
Through BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) operations, the drones can enter outbreak areas and help people in quarantine without staff risking catching an infection.
If an elderly person needs urgent medicine, it can be delivered within two minutes. Once landed, instructions for getting medicine out of the box are provided by phone.
Swabs can be delivered with instructions, with deliveries by post in the USA, enabling patients to carry out tests independently then send them back to the laboratory.
The box was tested in 2019 by ENAC and the Monaldi hospital in Naples, Italy, to carry biological samples, but they have been adapted for the coronavirus outbreak.
