Croatian Post has teamed up with autonomous robotic solutions provider Gideon Brothers in a bid to cut costs and improve operational efficiencies.
The postal operator has invested in Gideon Brothers’ pallet-carrying autonomous mobile robots in its new sorting center near Zagreb. The investment is part of Croatian Post’s Post 2022 strategy, which will see the operator invest in Industry 4.0 technologies.
According to Croatian Post, the robots will not replace humans but will instead assist them in their daily operations to improve working conditions and efficiencies.
The new robots will be tested during a pilot project over the next four months. They will be used in the Zagreb center’s high-rack warehouse and sorting facility. Employees will be trained to work alongside the robots, which will assist will the picking and transport of mail.
The self-driving robots can carry loads of up 800kg and can safely maneuver around people, equipment and other moving machines.
